AKILA is an independent eyewear brand from Los Angeles, designing limited-run eyewear with a focus on quality, fit, and considered design.

Every frame is designed in Los Angeles and made by hand using materials selected for their durability, comfort, and longevity. We work primarily with plant-based cellulose acetate and optical-grade titanium, alongside high-quality hardware and lenses.

Our approach is simple: make distinctive eyewear, make it well, and make it to be worn every day.

INDEPENDENT FRAME OF MIND

Independence gives us the freedom to make what we want, work with people we respect, and approach eyewear on our own terms.

Our Los Angeles R&D lab is an extension of that approach, giving us a place to develop new ideas, test constructions, refine fit, and experiment with materials and manufacturing techniques.

CELLULOSE ACETATE

Acetate has been central to AKILA from the beginning. Made primarily from wood pulp and cotton fibers, cellulose acetate offers a combination of strength, flexibility, and depth of color that few frame materials can match.

Unlike conventional molded plastics, acetate can be shaped, polished, and adjusted with heat for a more precise fit. Our acetate frames are reinforced with metal temple cores and finished with durable hardware designed for regular wear.

TITANIUM

Our titanium frames offer a different approach to eyewear: lightweight, precise, and exceptionally durable.

We use optical-grade titanium for its strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and everyday comfort. Its properties allow us to create thinner, more refined constructions without sacrificing durability, with adjustable nose pads and temples for a precise fit.

AKILA LENSES

Our glasses use optical-grade lenses designed for clarity, durability, and protection. All AKILA sun lenses provide 100% UVA and UVB protection, with select styles featuring polarization and anti-reflective coatings.

We use Tritan Renew lens material in all of our frames, incorporating certified recycled content through a mass-balance process while maintaining the optical clarity required for eyewear.

MATERIALS & RESPONSIBILITY

We believe better materials and longer-lasting products are the most practical place to start.

We use plant-based cellulose acetate, recycled-content lens materials, and plastic-free packaging wherever possible. Our packaging includes recycled paper and biodegradable materials, along with reusable cork-based cases.

We continue to evaluate materials, manufacturing, and packaging as better options become available.
